Representatives from all social areas of Barcelona who are united by "their feelings of love for Barcelona and the concern with which they live the current situation" have grouped together in the Barcelona Federal District cultural association (BDF).
The promoters of this project defend making a "common front of governance that takes shape in two major areas: the erroneous definition of the territory we refer to when we think of Barcelona and the sustained loss of quality and deterioration of public services of some of our municipal governments in recent years".
This Thursday, BDF was presented in a tripartite conference presented by the president of the new entity,Josep Maria Cardellach. The first part of the conference was given by the professor of Medieval History,José Enrique Ruiz-Doménec, who made a historical exhibition of the city from its origins.
The former manager of Barcelona City Council and former general secretary of the Presidency of the Generalitat in the socialist governmentPasqual Maragall,Ramon Garcia Bragado, reviewed how the president of the converging Generalitat,Jordi Pujol, dismantled the Barcelona Metropolitan Corporation in 1987 considering it a counter-power to the socialist councils.
García Bragado warned about what he considers a "metropolitan gridlock", considering that there is "a strong status quo. Everyone wins from the weakness of Barcelona. If Barcelona is weak, the Generalitat is stronger. It has extraordinary vitality, but not at an institutional level, which is to the detriment of all".
The event was closed by the entrepreneur and agricultural engineerMarta Roger, an event in which they attended, among othersAntoni Fernández Teixidó,Joan Hortalà,Jordi Casas,Montserrat NebreraoDaniel Sirera.
